When it comes to the topic of R&B in our local scene, things tend to get a little exciting especially when you consider the fact that the game is booming with a combination of emerging and established artists that are offering us the opportunity to create some special memories with each song they release...
So, with this in mind we thought it would be quite interesting to reach out to the rnbsoulsa family, a platform that’s dedicated to amplifying our R&B & Soul music environment, to collaboratively list (through discussion) which R&B artists are currently on our playlists right now and why via a two-part curation of opinions called “Our R&B Selects Today“.

Tron Pyre
The game seems to be getting familiar with Tron Pyre today either because of the amazing appearances he has on records with other disruptive artists or his critically acclaimed 2022 ‘It’s Not a Mistake’ project but if you travel back in time and dare to play his 2018 ‘Pangea’ body of work then you’ll understand that his current status is one that was manifested a long time ago.

In our opinion, Ben September’s 2021 ‘Tired’ single is arguably one of the best R&B offerings that has ever been gifted from a South African artist and that is the record that actually introduced us to his talents, in the first place. Fast-forward two/three years later, we believe that Ben is up there in terms of the current wave of R&B-centric artists that are clearly set on rejuvenating the game, especially as a male R&b artist. He is just amazing…

Okay, THE GOLDEN BOY, Rehsa, is one of the best upcoming male R&B artists in the game right now that we believe not only delivers on mind-blowing experiences but is able to make you dance too. Have you heard ’Gone’ or his ‘No Nights Out’ song? What about the covers he sometimes drops? C’mon…

First of all, we’ve got to admit that MikhaléJones is a name that we’ve heard being echoed amongst peers & alternative music lovers alike and kind of slept on until the year 2021 when she released her ‘It Is What It Is’ debut album. Since that drop we’ve kept a close ear on her sound that we’ve mostly experienced through her collaborative efforts. We’re wide awake now…

Yeah, we believe that Mia is a true definition of an R&B soul musically gifted artist that is contributing in shaping our future soundscape because not only is her voice hypnotising but her lyrics are captive to… She keeps old school R&B alive through her sounds and her ’The Other Side’ EP is just delicious.
