The New Balance 1906 Arrives in Two New Colorways

New Balance have released two new colorways of its classic 1906 sneaker: the “Angora” and “Silver Metallic.”  The two hotly anticipated colorways hit the shelves on January 1, and are both extremely versatile sneakers that are sure to elevate all kinds of outfits, while also catering to a range of styles at the intersection of street style and high fashion.

The Boston-based fashion label debuted the New Balance 1906 in 2009, with the number in the model’s name paying homage to the year that the brand was founded. The 1906 has a die-hard community and has since become a cultural icon in its own right. Lauded for its versatility, the 1906 continues to make waves in the space of music, fashion, sports and technology.

The 1906 was reissued last year as the 1906R, melding the original 1906 upper with the midsole of the 860v2. In the latest release, New Balance is set to take the 1906R silhouette in a new direction with the 1906U — a utility-based version of the shoe that is the next layer of continuing experimentation with the classic runner, similar to 1906F and 1906D.

The two new releases come in contrasting styles with the “Angora” colorway featuring a more subtle appearance that’s covered in a mostly white upper. It’s put together with suede panels and technical mesh, where it’s complete with splashes of blue, pink, alongside yellow pastel hues at the TPU cage and outsole.

The second pair in the Silver Metallic colorway boasts retro running flair with a palette that pays homage to the hues found throughout the 2000s. The low-top trim showcases a soft cream-white base layer that extends the light color to match the lace and high-spec midsole. There are a few hits of black within the mid-foot, tongue and inner lining, but the shoe’s main feature is a silver metallic ethos across the upper’s TPU overlays and heel counter. To finish it all off, vibrant blue color blocking throughout the shoe accents the quarter, profile “N” logos, lace loops and pods of the N-Ergy midsole.

The 1906 sneaker has gained somewhat of a cult following since its 2009 release, with the model giving off the vibe of a classic silhouette that’s reminiscent of the ’90s. Thanks to its laidback, cool appeal, it has gained a faithful following of some of the most in-the-know fashion people, including supermodels, stylists and celebrities. When it comes to styling the sneaker, the sneaker pairs well with athleisurewear and will instantly add a layer of cool to more formal attire.
